The Alamo Hotels
One of the nation's most historic sites, The Alamo is a must-see when visiting San Antonio, Texas. Steeped in history as a former Spanish mission and the center of the Texas Revolution of 1836, The Alamo is where the never-give-up fight of Texans and Tejanos staved off Mexican soldiers and General Santa Anna for 13 days before they were taken over. American heroes Jim Bowie and Davie Crockett were among the defenders. Months later, the rally cry of "Remember the Alamo" is what Sam Houston used to motivate his soldiers at the Battle of San Jacinto.
Today, The Alamo is still considered hallowed ground in Texas, and brings in over 2.5 million visitors each year. Tourists enjoy reliving history by taking part in guided tours, exploring exhibits featuring artifacts like Davie Crocket's vest, an outdoor Wall of History, the Alamo Gardens, and the Long Barrack Museum. One can even see cannons that were actually used during the battle. Gift shops are available as well so one can bring some of the history home with them such as Texas flags with the Alamo Brand and Bowie Knives.
